I have a all in one Sony home system in a box , but the unit has done packed it in . Can I still use the speakers with a new receiver unit . Some say that the sony has to be used with the original receiver that I had before and you can't mix it with another . Is this true . The speakers are 8ohm units and I thought if Icut the wires I could stick them into a new receiver . What do you think . PLease reply it would be nice . Thanks

If they are 8 ohm speakers, then they should work alright with a normal receiver. The problem is, I would think the crossover point to the subwoofer would be very high, so sound coming from the subwoofer would be very localizable. It would be advisable to pick up some budget bookshelves that can go lower. They will sound better and work better with the system.
