Are there significant differences between the RX-V1500 and RX-V2500?

Other than having a few extra watts a cooling fan a backlit remote and a much higher price tag, are there other features the 2500 has that trully makes it superior to the 1500? Has anyone made the leap up to the 2500 and felt it was a worthwhile change? Yet another question: will either of these units power a subwoofer while in pure direct, direct stereo/2ch stereo modes?

THX certification, whatever that's worth...

software-upgradable via RS-232 port for the next Dolby/DTS configuration nightmare that comes along without having to buy a new receiver.. I'd say it's worth having.

My 1400 has a fan. Are you sure the 1500 doesn't?

Don't forget the HD connections

Also another thing is the amount of high-def connections. The RX-V2500 has three inputs and also has more digital inputs as well. That was the main reason I bought mine, with High-def cable, progressive scan DVD, and of course the Xbox all hooked up high def. One thing I really do not see much in here about is the video processor of the 2500. I can really, really see a difference now. My DVD always looked good but it really looks like a different one now it is so much better. Even my fiance who is really not in tune with these things noticed. Just my 2 cents worth since I own the 2500 as well.

The component video switching! I have PS2, Dish Network HD, and the Prog DVD player all hooked into it. The problem is that my HDTV only has ONE set of HD comonent inputs (it is a 2001 HD). The 2500 allows me to plug it all in and switch between them easily. Whereas before I would have to pull the whole damn TV out of the entertainment center and hook up the dvd player, ps2, etc.

15000 microfarad caps instead of 10000. Does the 1500 do the video conversion too? The 2500 does.

The 1500 does the same conversion as the 2500. Conversion, not up-conversion.

Well somthing else that has not been mentioned is the OSD on th 2500 is much better that the 1500's and in my opinion it makes it easier to setup. :D

What I have found is that there are usually numerous little features that you get when stepping up that are not published because there not eye catchers like power, THX, DTS, etc. One example… is the Volume Trim Feature. This feature cures the problem with different sources have different levels. The volume trim feature allows you to adjust the input level of each source. The unit then recalls that setting when that source is selected. This helped me with volumes levels of DVD’s settings for THX, and the differences between the volume levels of the DVD and the Tuner.

Facts 'n Rumors

Facts:

RX-V2500 has fully user-adjustable ParametricEQ, RX-V1500 has automagic PEQ, but no user-adjustable PEQ settings.

RX-V2500 has slick GUI interface, RX-V1500 has old ASCII interface.

RX-V2500 weighs more than RX-V1500. Mostly attributed to the power transformer. Certainly a non-technical, but remarkably consistant litmus test for power amps (until digital class ones came along).

RX-V1500 has small PS filter caps than the RX-V2500.

Neither RX-V2500 nor RX-V1500 are firmware upgradeable. The RS-232C port is for control purposes only.

Rumors:

RX-V2500 incorporates better, "audiophile grade" components. I've seen no specific data to refute/support this.

So does the 1500 actually have a cooling fan or not? If so, how do they control it? (on overheat only, always on, variable speed control)

I'd like to know where the cooling fan is on the 2500. I looked while at the dealer the other day and couldn't find it. As far as I know there's nothing in the literature about it. Can sombody tell me where it is?

Fan in the 2500 can be set to come on automatically (only when heat builds up), or be on all the time (continuous mode). I posted a thread on this feature. I believe it was page 81 of the manual. Anyway, its in the original thread, located here:

http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7258

On the question of where the fan is located; its in the chassis, on the side opposite the transformer, and it sits on edge as viewed from the top of the unit. Not easy to see. It blows through the aluminium heat sinks towards the transformer. Air goes through the heat sinks, then also cools the transformer as well. On my old Denon 3802, the fan cooled the heat sinks only, and exhausted out the back panel. The transformer still got fairly warm when driven hard. Its a neat design.
