Are good headphones worth the investment for a PC environment?

I'm a gamer and PC enthusiast. In addition, I have 313 songs on iTunes. The cheap Koss dynamic headphones I have become uncomfortable within an hour of use. I've asked in a separate thread what are good, all around headphones, and from replies I received I became intrigued by Beyerdynamic's DT880 which costs $240.

Are $200+ headphones overkill for iTunes, iTunes +, and for my Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Champion sound card that's 24 bit, 96KHz? I want to enjoy high quality audio on my PC somehow, someday. I'd appreciate your frank advice. Thank you.

Those Beyers are great headphones. Are they overkill for iTunes? Maybe, I guess that would really depend on the bit rate? However, they can last a good long time and I think would be worth the investment. They come in different impedances though, make sure you get the right one for your source.

I went down to the previous thread and replied. My best headphone is the Sennheiser HD 598, which is comfortable and very easy to listen to. But I have nothing against Beyer Dynamics or AKG, I just have no recent expenence with them. I have no experience with gaming and little with iTunes, but I think high quality headphones simply help you get the best sound out of your PC.
