Are Atmos enabled speakers needed?

I have recently gone from a Yamaha Aventage rx a720 7.2 receiver that I used with front height speakers to a a Denon that has Atmos and Dts-x. I have no intention of putting speakers in my ceiling or using reflective speakers. So my question is can I use my 2 way SVS discrete speakers and hang them in the front corners of my room. In addition I have two front PSB imagine xb and a imagine xb center. My sub is a Def Tec 1000 and I'm using Monitor Audio bipoles on the rear side walls as my surrounds

I could be wrong but I believe if you don't use either in-ceiling nor Atmos-enabled (reflective) speakers, you simply will not get the effect.

Yes, you can use them. Have a second person move the speaker while listening to something familiar to set its height.

KenM may be right about the 'effect', I have heard that as well. But I also think you're getting a better performing speaker out of your bi-pole that you already have!

Warrior thanx for ur response but I'm a little vague on what ur last comment on the bioole speakers was about. R u saying the svs are better than the bioole or the opposite please explain, thanx for ur patience!! Also do I need a better sub? I'm looking at svs again. They have a $500 ported sub that the reviews sound good
