Are Analog Interconnects the same as Component?

Hello,

I would like to enjoy SACD and DVD Audio on my system. I am confused about the connections. I was hoping someone can help me a little.

1. Are the analog interconnect cables for 6 channel audio the same as component video cables? (that means I would need component video x2 to connect 6 channels)

2. Do I need any other connections (digital coax or optical) for other types of audio material such as stereo CDs or MP3s?

Thanks for help,

Gluchy.

The component video cables will work for multi-channel audio like SACD and DVD-A but so will 3 pairs of regular old audio cables.

If you want to send the digital audio from a CD to the receiver you need either an optical or coaxial digital connection; otherwise if you only use the analog cables, the player will convert the digital audio to analog instead of the receiver.

They are the same...

oops slow on the keyboard.. Yes the cables are the same as component video cables, or you can use the stereo patch cables. It does not matetr. You don't need those real thick video cables either. You should be able to play stereo audio and 5.1 sound thru the same cables.

But, you might want to hook up a digital connection to see if the DACs in the player or your reciever sound better to you for stereo, DD and DTS material.

6 channel analog cable

Component video cables tend to be higher quality coax to allow for the high bandwith of HD video signals. For your 6 channel audio connection, buy 3 of the RCA audio cables with 2 RCA connectors on each end. This should be much more cost effective. Impact acoustics and other suppliers bundle 6 RCA cables together specifically for this application.

The 6 ch analog audio can use any of the interconnect type cables, including the component video cables with RCA connector on it; or, 3 pairs of the regular red and white colored interconnects. You need these to play multi channel DVDA or SACD when they are in multi channel form.
You would also need either coax for digital audio or optical for the same digital audio, depending on which connections you have or more of.
