Are aftermarket video processors necessary anymore?

A friend of mine dropped off a Key Digital HD Leeza 1080p video processor he wants use in trade with me. I haven't played with it yet and am not really sure if I'm even interested. My PS3 upscales dvds, so will my AVR, and my tv. I know a few years back a scaler was a good investment and could make a hefty improvement in video quality, but I really have no idea if it's really needed at this point or if it will make much difference with my setup.

Anyone familiar with the unit or have any experience or thoughts on this?

I believe some guys use the Key Digital processors for vertical stretching (if the projector is unable to do so) for anamorphic/CIH projector setups.

With your sources, i wouldnt think so. However the control adjustments over brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue, aspect ratio in & out, non-linear stretch Letterbox (vertical and Horizontal) Independent blue and red saturation and with 6 user-programmable input and output aspect ratio settings it is pretty cool:D

It has DVI connections so I've got to get an adapter before I can play with it. I really don't do much with anything other than DVD and BD, and rarely some Tv. Even for Tv I just use an antenna and only watch the local PBS HD channel for Nova, or Nature, or IMAX stuff. My friend did email the manual and specsheet to me, but that's about the only stuff I could out about it.
I couldn't find any info or reviews about it online and I really have no idea what this thing is even worth.

I'd say toy around with it and see what you can do. :) What have you got to lose? You're an Audioholic aren't you? :D

EDIT: Oh, absolutely necessary? Probably not, but still pretty cool to play around with. :)
