Was thinking of getting one of these new babies, but wanted to ask folks first if anyone knew whether or not it would play songs purchased from itunes. . . . Or is it still the case that songs purchased from itunes will only play on ipods? Thanks!

Songs purchased through iTunes use FairPlay DRM, so the answer is no, you will not be able to listen to iTunes music on this device. However, you could just use Windows Media Player 10 and purchase songs off of Napster in WMA format that you can use anywhere.

I was afraid of that

Thanks, Nick.

That's a good idea and I'll probably start dowloading songs from media player 10 from now on. I have hundreds of songs from itunes though already and am bummed that none of them will transfer!

If you want to go through the hassle, a program called FairTunes ( http://fairtunes.cjb.net/ ) will output your AACs to uncompressed WAVs or AIFFs, at which point you can encode them as standard MP3s or WMAs - free of all copy-protection.

Putting DVD rips onto the Archos Gmini 400

I am interested in getting the Archos Gmini 400 and know it plays movies but i was worried if anyone knew if i would be able to rip a DVD onto my computer then convert it into a Mpeg 4 format file and transfer it onto the Archos so i can watch it on there?

I would be grateful if some one could get back to me on this.

^ yeah I was wondering that too. Is ripping a DVD to my computer the only way I can get DVD's on my archos?
