ARC

This is my first encounter with ARC on HDMI. Am I understanding it right? ARC means "Audio Return Channel"? So there's a 2-way communication on that connection? And this would be ideal if I'm using a web-enabled TV or other component connected to an receiver to access Netflix or other service and send the audio from Internet downloads to the speaker system via the HDMI?
Have I got that right?

Hi, Chuck. Yep, you've got that right. Both the receiver and the TV must have ARC for it to work, and you'll need to use the HDMI jacks labeled "ARC" because not all of them will handle that.

Thanks. Setting up new TV and Soundbar with new reciever and (current) Blu-ray player and new-ish Cable Box. Phew what a learning curve. Especially since I'm melding all this while it needs to pass a high wife-acceptance-factor bar.

To add to the fun, ARC seems to be hit or miss between various TVs and receivers. I haven't read the spec but there must be room for interpretation in there somewhere. I wanted to upgrade my receiver for ARC but decided not to. Now I'm waiting on the new sound formats to shake out before upgrading.

Simplistic solution may be to set up 2 parallel set ups. One for wifie, other one for me.

Reworked everything, finally.

Vizio set up is on its own power bar/surge protector. Sony set up ditto in another room.
Vizio set up is Cable Box (Brighthouse aka TWC) in then Analog audio L/R out to Earphones, with HDMI out, video only, to TV and Optical out, audio only, to Sound Bar. Blu-ray player is HDMI to Receiver then HDMI out to TV.
Sony TV is DTA in then HDMI to TV and Blu-ray connected to TV via Composite.
Phew. Now ... can I get the Harmony to talk turkey to the Vizio set up.
Oh yeah, got a 7 on the wife-acceptance scale.

I always find it easier to change the wife.....Plus the new models are really nice....
