Appropriate distance for Floor speakers from TV

Hi Folks,

I'm new here, as well as pretty new to home Audio setup. I'm currently looking into getting a JBL collection of speakers for my dolby 5.1 surround system. I recently purcahsed the 36 inch Sony Wega Hi Def tube television. As I understand it you will want to keep speakers a certain distance from the telivision. In the past my older tv got a big bluish spot from the magnets of my old stereo speakers. They were quite large floor standing speakers.

Anyway the large floor standing speakers I am getting are the JBL e80's. They're pretty large. Does anyone have a recomendation on how far the front speakers should be from the tv? Any help with this will be most appreciated.

It shouldn't be an issue if the drivers are magnetically shielded. If the manufacturer does not indicate this in the specifications, e-mail them and ask.

Ok thanks. So you're saying if they are magnetically shielded, then they could potentially be right next to the tv without a problem? I will check on that specification. I appreciate your answer. Thanks :)

Yep.

The rest of this was added to make the post longer than 10 letters.

Well and just in case they are not (which i doubt), 2 ft is a safe distance.

Other than the magnetism of your speakers there is a good reason to place your speakers further apart. Imageing is directly affected by how far apart your speakers are placed from each other. Many people claim to have the perfect distance to get the best imaging but you will have to experiment to find the best distance for your room, speakers, and layout. I have found that 8-10 feet apart is usually in the
ballpark of what you will need to create a wide and deep soundstage. Just remember trial and error is the best way to find what will work best for you. Happy Listening.:)
