Apocalypse Now BD

Not sure we've discussed this one yet, but this is one of my favorites of all time- looks like it got an amazing BD treatment.

I had it on VHS, now DVD (The Complete Dossier) and I assume I'll get the BD after my projecter and BDP are aquired. FFC is soaking me for whatever he can get...

What's in all those different discs?

Looks like they've got both versions of the film (original and redux), the documentary "Heart of Darkness" (in HD) where Coppola talks about how the movie almost bankrupted and killed him- the doc itself is almost 100 minutes long. The third disc is all extras- deleted scenes, interviews, etc.

Extra scenes. It's about an extra 45 minutes of material. Almost all of it adds to the story. One scene (plantation scene) slows the movie down, but from a context perspective (30+ years after the war ended), I actually like the message.

Highly recommend watching the theatrical version first and then the redux. Get the basic story down, and then watch it again with these additional scenes which I believe add to the wackiness and surrealism of the entire story.

That's an interesting point of controversy. Supposedly (and I only know this from some of the reading I've done recently), that footage was never supposed to represent a bombing attack. The explosions shown are actually footage of the demolition of the sets- the Philippine government required all sets to be blown up, and Coppola decided to film it. This was then included at the end as a way to show the credits, but it was never supposed to represent the bombing of Kurtz's base. FFC changed this for the redux b/c people were misinterpreting the footage, and now shows the credits differently.
