So, I have this awesome new setup and I just want to crank it up and watch a sick movie. Unfortunately, our new neighbors upstairs do not appreciate the 1,000 watt dayton titanic lol. I could understand on a weekday, but 10 pm on a friday and they come downstairs to tell us to turn it down? The gain on the sub isnt even at a quarter volume, and we were watching avatar at like -27db. I even thought ahead and got a subdude to try and help. BTW, does anyone want to trade my copy of Dave Matthews at Radio City br for like a Rush br? lol

My Motto is...

If one sub pi$$es off the neighbors, than two or more subs should really help make new friends. :D

I used to live in an apartment where the next door neighbor's kid would turn up music really load when his parents weren't home. So I'd get even by running extremely loud bass sweeps with nothing but my subwoofers on. I'd shake the crap out of the whole building. He'd turn it down.

Nice thing about bass frequencies is there hard to localize in a building.

There are now lots of houses for rent. Move out of the apartment and rent a house.

play it louder, eventually they will go deaf and then won't be able to hear to complain :D -5dB on the receiver while wearing earplugs should do the trick.

If I where you I would let them know that you find their lack of wall shaking bass highly offensive, also throw in a note from your M.D. that states you suffer from RBS (Restless Bass Syndrome) and you are required to have daily doses of obscene levels of bass for your condition.:D

I guess I am lucky, the only times my neighbors knock on my door if their pictures start coming of their wall.

what type of construction is the building ?

i have a newer flexi-core condo(apartment). usually the movie is not that loud. but there are a few that shake the building. i select movies, 2 a week. less action type for friday, and action for saturday. we start the movie early evening, so it is done before 10pm.

perhaps your new neighbors are the type that are in bed by 10pm.
so doing it earlier will be less likely to bother them.

my place is on the market. i'm looking at houses. but the market is so dead that all i can do is look/dream. but when i do move = monster subs !

i tried that once. they were completely uninterested.

and, it could backfire on ya. showing them your stuff gives them information.
information is often used against people. just sayin.

Any subwoofer is not apartment friendly. Get headphones and bass shakers.

imo bass shakers are only good if u have full range fronts and only feed the lfe to the shaker.

Yea I know. I had a smaller sub before though and that was never an issue. And I have 5 apartment-mates, so 6 of us watching tv with headphones is kind of an issue lol

Yea thats true. I dont want a bunch of pissed off college kids knowing what stuff I have.

they are college kids ? well then...

be diplomatic, ask them what their schedule is. work around that. if they still don't like it, tell em to go scratch. depending on what type of construction the building is.

again, what type of construction is the building ?

First of all, the day and time have no effect on how annoying something is. If you live in an apartment you simply do not get the luxury of playing anything loud. What is annoying to them might be nothing to you, however that simply DOES NOT matter.

It's called being respectful and courteous, if you can't handle not using your sub then you simply need to move.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful... and time does matter. If it's a weekday then I expect there to be minimal noise because people are trying to do school work. But on a weekend night in a college town, you can't expect everything to be quiet. If we were playing it loud constantly then I could understand them coming downstairs to tell us to turn it down. But 15 minutes into a movie? Like I said earlier, it wasnt very loud, they just complain at every noise. Should I tell them to stop walking because their footsteps can be heard? What about when they're doing the deed? Should I tell them to spray some WD-40 because the bed is making too much noise? lol

Well since they can't help walking I would assume no. As far as the sex thing, if they're making too much noise then it's perfectly valid for you to say something. I would also assume you're being pretty respectful by coming here and asking advice.

But again, no, time has no bearing on how annoying something is. If it's annoying, it's annoying.

As far as 15 minutes in, I wouldn't have waited 5 minutes if I was in their position. The longer you'd play it the longer you would assume they're okay with it.
