Anything better for the price of a Linn Majik DS-I

Hello dudes!

I want to buy a new amp with a dedicated DAC. I'am not interested in surround cinema stuff so stereo is totall sufficient. I previously owned a Rotel 1560 and a Arcam AVR600, but i was very dissapointed from their quality (not the audio quality).

At the moment I'am wondering if there is a amp and a dac together not more expensive than a Linn Majik DS-I with same or better audio quality. I'am not interested in very analytical hardware, but sure should not be not too much forged either.

I read always that the Linn Majik DS-I has a very nice builtin DAC, can stream audio over a IP/Ethernet network AND has a very nice stereo amp build in. I think there is nothing comparable for its price of 2400 Euro. But anyway a dedicated system with a dedicated amp and a dedicated dac is something more likeable to me.

Please help in decission.. :)

Thx and cheers,
Chris

What exactly was it that you didn't like about the rotel and arcam's "quality?... cuz personally I'd just get an Emotiva USP-1, XDA-1, and 2x UPA-1 for like a quarter of that amount of money so I'm just not following you.

The Arcam was three and the Rotel two times in repair and had still problems...
They seem to produce very bad quality and have some problems in there quality management too. I'am very indisposed from UK vendors now.

I see. Well, Emotiva does a second quality check for any of their products leaving the USA prior to sending it, so definitely consider them. I know it seems strange for me to be recommending a company with products that'll cost you only 1500USD + shipping for a four piece set (two monoblock amps, an analog preamp, and a digital preamp) over a 2400 euro product but that's just a testament to how great they are.

Otherwise you're probably looking into a brand like bryston or parasound. It'll definitely cost you around 2400 E if not more for a bryston B100 sst with the DAC upgrade.

I really do suggest going separate on the parts though. If quality's a concern, then you want pieces with less functions stuffed into a chassis IMO.

Insomnia

Insomnia doesn't just mean inability to drop off to sleep. Other symptoms are: waking early and not getting back to sleep, constantly interrupted short periods of sleep,or hours of wakefulness.

For less money take a look at this:

For 2400E you can buy a lot of gear ...
I just don't think is worth spending on the digital gear this kind of money...
DAC's don't make such a big difference in your system and if you want streaming capabilities try SqueezeCenter - my 2c
