I have a stero receiver that does not have HDMI inputs. Everything is set up with components and digital sound wires. I want to get an adapter for my ipad that only has hdmi. If I get a hdmi to component cable and plug that into the surrond sound system, I will get video, but what happens to sound?

any other ideas?

thanks

I think that would depend on the adaptor you choose

I'd say THIS answers all your needs.

I thought that was technically illegal. There is no such thing as an HDMI to component cable because that violates HDCP, as does that box.

The box might work, or might not - all depends on your components
and only way to see if it works is to to test it at your home :)

I won't recommend it

My take: If it does what is advertised, it seems to fit OP's needs. If not, it's no skin off our teeth. Let him take that up with the dealer/manufacturer.

You'll notice he hasn't bothered to respond so why worry about it?

will do. Expecting it tomorrow. Got it from monoprice. Very good reviews there for the most part. Will use it with my Ipad and laptop and report back!

Thanks again!

It may or may not be illegal. If it passes copyrighted material in HD it is illegal. The Studios have shut down the HD fury which was the preferred converter for that reason.

It seems the picture quality of the unit recommended is poor. That would make sense as the quality must be downgraded to 480i to be legal.

Also it must not pass program that forbids analog output from a device.

So if it is legal, it must have poor picture quality which I believe it has, and it must recognize the new flags which prohibit analog conversion. If it does both of those it is legal, otherwise it is illegal.

Hopefully, we'll know soon enough.

He's ordered it and, if it does what's promised, all the better.

If not, then I imagine he'll send it back.

So one would conclude that it will not pass any HDCP content, correct?

Not correct. HDCP codes and these new flags are independent.

So currently HD at analog has to be downgraded or absent, which is why component outputs are disappearing from BD players.

Now we have passed the time where HDMI HDCP code compatible devices must recognize flags that do not allow analog output.

I understand there is not much source material with these flags yet, but their use is supposed to increase.
