I have 12" Acoustic Research AR112Ps, rated at 150WRSM,and I got an email about the emotiva subs are being closed out. The ar112PS is ok but it doesn't sound punchy and precise for music. I don't turn the sub loud so 10" should be good enough.
If the ultra 10 is good for music then I can use it for my 2ch music and leave the AR112PS as where it is now. My budget is $300 because i have a long list this xmas.
thanks

How big is your room??
Changing 12" sub for 10" - I'd hardly call than an upgrade in most cases.
I'd rec you choose b'ween:
Emotiva Sub 12
eD A3S - 250
or 12" Lava sub.

btw- Lava sub running 2x10" subs for $399 which is a great deal and two subs is better than one (If identical and correctly positioned)

my rooms are big, both are at least 20x25' and open
I figure that too but my current 12" sub rated less than the ultra 10 and i barely turn on the volume to 10'clock position. Anyway, do you think the ultra is an upgrade to the AR 112PS?

4000+ cuft is way too large for a 10" sealed sub. I'd save a bit longer for a 12" vented sub or two.

I think I pass the Emo deal and go with Velodyne Impact 12 instead.

With a room that big, a single impact 10 isn't going to do it, and it is only good to 32Hz. At $199, I hope you bought two :) I don't think a single Ultra10 would have quite done it either though.

I hooked it up last night and I wasn't impressed but it's a keeper.Today I brought down stair with woodfloor to test against my old sub and I really love it. I found that my old AR sub is louder and boomy and not good for music at all. The impact can't go lower, 32Hz as you said but very tight and the volume is at 2'clock position. Now I just realized I need a good sub, not speakers or amp. I am going to use the impact 10 for my 2.1 upstair. Should i get two more for my HT/Music setup? or get a 12" sub that can go lower? Which one I should get for $300-400?
