a pre/pro with HDMI inputs and DTS HD audio/dolby truHD for less than $150?
I know it's probably a tall order, but here's my situation:

Right now I have an HK AVR 525, PS3, and Infinity Alpha speakers (50s for fronts, 20s for rears, and the big center, I forget the model#). I am selling my avr 525 for $500 (i am setting it up, along with his other stuff for the guy who's buying it, and throwing in an optical cable and decent speaker wire), and was planning on getting a denon avr 2310ci. But then I started seeing a lot of good reviews on Emotiva equipment and kinda fell for the UPA-5. But in order to get that, I'll need a pre/pro. If I can get it for less than $150, that's definitely the way I'm going. If not, I guess I'll "settle" for the avr 2310.

Add zero at the end of this number and you'll right there :)
Seriously $150?? Even limited functions refub hdmi avr will cost atleast $300.
Not much of avrs with hdmi 1.3 support you'll find in 2nd hand market...
but hey, if you lucky to find such treasure - craig'slist/audiogone/ebay will be your best bets.

I figured I was really pushing it, but thought if I could find something cheap for now, then upgrade later would be worth it.

You could get close with an entry level Yamaha receiver. I'm not sure at what point they add pre-outs but that would be a place to start.
