I'm a big Von Bondies fan and wonder if this album lives up to their previous ones

Well I picked the vinyl version of that which also included a CD version as well all in one package. The vinyl is thicker than what your typicall vinly was back in the 80s but I don't think its a 180gm. I put it on the TT last night and gave it a spin and overall it sounded very clean and very very quiet, no background noise at all. I did detect some distortion and thought maybe that I had a dirty needle or the record was recorded with levels set to high. So I put on the CD version and played it to compare to the vinyl. The distortion present in the vinly was there on the CD as well so I guess this was intended all along. The distortion came across as a little bit of fuziness in the male leads vocal voice.

I only listened to one side but so far so good. I hold off on the verdict until I get a chance to listen to the other side.

Do you have a verdict, 3db? I, too, was a fan of most of their previous effort, and was curious if the new one was worth picking up.

Thanks!

The verdict is good. I like the album but the rawness of the first two is somewhat subdued in the second one. Where the first two albums slapped you right in teh face with its agressiveness, this one takes a few listening sessions before you start to experience the feelings of teh other two. Stollen????? guitar is still edgey but the songsare somewhat more polished. However, he digs a little deeper into the guitar now adding some guitar showmanship that wasn't done before with real effective results. Its a good album and I do recommend it.

Now on for the bad news... I don't know if I reached my turntables potential or if the recording on the vinyl format is pooer in quality than its cd counterpart. There is definately more "fuziness" in the vocals on teh LP then there is on the CD. However, this album was arranged by three different people and the fuzziness appears to be trhe same person. Other songs arranged by teh others do not exhibit this. I'll have to give the format war a nod to the CD side on this recording.

Those of you with vinyl experience and expensive turntable rigs, please chime in.
