Usually audiophiles on the internet are true audiophiles, we just have limited budgets. The people who are audiophiles like us, and who buy TAD, are just people with alot of money to throw away and wouldn't waste there time on a message board.

Just because gear is cheap, doesn't mean its not good, alot of overpriced stuff,

time to learn!

He wants a website where people show pictures of their martin login 60,000 electrostatic speakers.

How do you think you pay for something like that?

Sell a Kid(ney)?

People who have things like that are either up partying late all night because they dont care, or spend a limited amount of time doing anything considering they probably have to goto their job for many hours of the day.

I, personally saw these kickass speakers at best buy for $99 for a pair of bookshelf speakers, WOW! Sony too!!!

OOOo sony...

Define Audiophile

What's your defination?

1) Someone who has to have the absolute best gear regardless of cost because they think it will improve their social life? Or

2) Someone who is so into music they want to have the best gear to have the best sound possible regardless of how high a price they pay? or

3) Someone who is so into music they want to have the best gear to have the best sound possible, and want to get the best gear to make the sound the best to themself, and chooses not to believe the marketing BS, but does research to get the best gear at the best price regardless of whether that price is very high or very low?

You will find most people at this site follow #3, but if you have to go #1 or #2, there is Audio Asylum (or the toilet). :D

Lord, I hope not. I enjoy music too much. Nothing like getting anal ans over-analytical about something to take all the fun out of a hobby. It becomes too much like work. After all, how many Gynecologists really enjoy their work? :D

au·di·o·phile ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ôd--fl)
n.
A person having an ardent interest in stereo or high-fidelity sound reproduction.

Money is not what makes the audiophile. The pursuit of each individuals own definition of pure sound at whatever the price. Great sound can come from what some would call cheap stuff.

We are all cautious in saying someone is not/may not be an audiophile because his/her system doesn't meet a certain cost criteria. Talk about starting an argument!

As for me, I have a wife, four kids, two car payments and a mortgage and very little left over for anything. I buy last years stuff at a greatly reduced cost and have put together a pretty decent system on a shoestring budget.

I'm not trying to bash anyone, I just don't like stereotypes (or is that us? ) and the assumptions that go with them.

I got tired of people equating "audiophile" with "Dork w/ 25,000 vinyl records".

Now I'm just a "Hi-Fi enthusiast" (among other things)

Hmmmmm

This board is practical, not cheap.

Compare this board to the classic auto rag... Which is the most common car on the road... Chevy or Ford something another, or Porsche 911? Which auto will get the most coverage? Is that being practical? Is that really reflective of the needs of the readers of the rag? Or is the rag just fodder for fantasy?

The editor of the audio rag, who has spent the whole day harping on the merits of the Porsche 911 or the some other exotic, will then drive home in his/her Chevy. Something practical is happening.

By the I have a Pontiac, hells bells, I couldnt get my fat butt behind the wheel of the Porsche.

Like my car needs, people's audio needs are just as practical, and this board does a great job of meeting people's needs, not their fantasies.

that's like saying you're a ferrari enthusiast without owning even one. Or a sports car afficianado without a sports car.

I think wannabe is implied. Everyone would like to have the best things; those who actually have them, by wealth or sacrifice, are the true -philes, i feel.

Anyway, i am out of this forum. Goodluck with ur systems all.

BTW, i am not an audiophile, i was just hoping to learn more about the higher end systems to see if i would be interested in upgrading sometime. but its not like i have time to even listen to the 20k system i have, lol. peace guys.

I like to consider myself an audiophile even I do not have a big budget, which may not guarantee better sound.

Audiophile - not equipmentofile - I like the sound and consider the 'best sound' subjective.

Buy what you like and listen to what you like. Not strive to impress with high $ numbers.

Will you please take me for a ride in your Ferrari? Maybe we could drop by your place & check out those superb tunes. Since you don't have the time to enjoy your 20k system, would you like to sell all or part of it? My Soundesign is getting old & some of the 8-tracks are messing-up!

We will miss you! Maybe you can come back when you hit 21. Bring your ID.

Or, maybe #4
someone who enjoys music but doesn't fall head over heel about the equipment :D
