Like adwilk said, more of a bang for your buck sub than top quality.

How much can you afford to spend?

afford? lol

That is a good question. I sort of decided on an Elemental Designs A7-700. I will have to save for 2 or 3 months to get it. Do recommend something?

That's a pretty nice sub. For about the same coin, I'd probably go this route, just based upon looks alone.

A few people on here have one (or two) and are very pleased with them. I have an av123 mfw-15 and wouldn't recommend buying one, even though I've been pleased with it.

That is very funny because it was a toss up between the 2 for a while. What made me ease on over to the A7-700 was the amount of bang I was getting for actually less money. Couple hundred here and there pay off.
I have considered ED subs myself but have read some mixed reviews regarding customer service and reliability. Poke around a bit. It turned me off.

I've never heard anyone say anything negative about SVS. As a matter of fact, I've never known anyone who has ever heard or owned one to not absolutely love everything about it.

In that price range I would definitely go with the 13ultra. One of the very best subs a reasonable amount of money can buy.

You said yourself that you did not want "bang for your buck" but rather quality. The 13ultra is definitely quality.

How can it be possible that 1-13" sub could out drive and out perform 2-15" subs?? That is what boggles me.

I don't know if it would outperform it, but there is no denying the awesomeness of the PB13 ultra. Its not only about the size of the woofer. The woofers excursion as well as the size and design of the enclosure make a huge difference.

I poked around a bit more in terms of quality issues with their subs. No real major issues since the A5-350's were catching fire a few years back, but I've read too many posts from people saying they would never do business again with ED. Even recently. I don't mean to bash ED. There are many satisfied customers I'm sure. I just don't trust them enough to hand over my own money.

Buying internet direct, you can't simply show up at your local AV store if there is a problem. Its a real hassle if anything breaks or malfunctions.

You have really opened my eyes about this deal. Since I left you that last post I have been moving my options around. I went back to an old post I made and re-read some responses and came across the Epik Dragon. I also decided to read some reviews with that company and was please to see customers happy with the Customer Service they got. Would recommend Epik? Have you had or heard anything with them? Thank you so much for the input it is greatly appreciated.

Epik subs are supposed to be complete garbage. They break on their first use and customer service is horrible. I heard they are a mob front used to launder money made from selling the organs of the hobo's they murder.

Ok, I might have made that whole thing up for my own amusement.

I've heard very good things about Epik. If they shipped to Canada I would have considered one myself.

For $100 more you should consider the Phoenix as well. It is basically a ported version of the Dragon. Ported enclosures tend to be more efficient. They reach down a little lower.

OMG! I hate to admit this but you totally had me going. I literally was going to give up on your advice at the "Mob" part.lol Anyways I am glad you approve of them. I also read at the website that they basically make 2 of everything... 1 being sealed and 1 being ported. And strangely enough they all use the same Amp. So that is what I will make plans to do. I will get me an Epik. You seem sure about the Ported Phoenix and not the Sealed Dragon. I find that reassuring and will take your word for it. Of course that means I will be coming to you for any and all Customer Complaints lol j/k . Thanks again for all the advice it is much appreciated.

If you have the coin, get the Ultra! Best decision I ever made as far as subs go. Not only do they perform, but cosmetically they look fantastic. Just make sure you have space for it. They utilize an excellent design. Remember it's not just woofer size, it's the overall design that makes the difference. This thing has easily outperformed some "15 and 18" subs. Don't get me wrong, there are some other great subs out there. But for the money, it was the ticket for me. Sure you could get a better sub, just be prepared to pay alot more. :)
