Anyone have a sauna in their home?

Well, I got rid of 2 of my lifefitness commercial press machines and freed up a huge position of my gym... I haven't used them 2 machines in a while since I had a huge cable crossover installed...
Anyway, I have wanted a sauna and since now I made room, and sold the 2 machines for $3400, I want to use that cash to install a sauna... I want gas fired not wood and would like at least 3 person {probably never be more than me and the wife but I take up 2 spots easy..} so does anyone have one that has been good for a while, I hear horror stories about cheap ones where the wood separates and doors dont open or close and people have gotten stuck inside, ect...... thanks

I don't know a damned thing about saunas, but if I was going to install one, I'd like it to be of a Russian banya style, so I'd hope that charcoal fuel wouldn't be too much of a compromise. :D Then get some dried birch brances to slap other people's backs with. :D Don't forget the caviar and vodka!

Why not get a hot tub instead?;) You'd probably use marine grade wood, but I really have no clue.

I have 2 hot tubs, 1 funnels into the pool {seats 8} and the other is built into my rear left porch{only a 2 person oval, but because its so small and I have a 100K BTU propane pool heater heating it up it gets so hot so fast its just super convenient, we installed that one because we close down the pool for the winter and thats the best hot tub time}, but I want a sauna for the detoxing you cant get from a hot tub... Plus I have a year of pain pills to get out of my body, lol....

I seen them with teak but they use all kinds of woods, I dont want t o engineer one myself, I want to pick it out of a book and have my guys build it...

Russian banya is tougher to pull, much easier to go with finnish dry sauna
Do Watch the electrical bill - 4-5kW heater will rev up the meter quite fast

I will be heating it with propane probably a scandia unit or something similar, definitely NOT electric, my electric bill is already $350 per month, I had a ton of can lights in the plans since the ceilings are so high and the rooms are so large, but I also had regular lights installed in each room, so you have the cans and then a switch for a deco light {that will light the room fine}, well I come home and the can lights are all on {We have over 80 throughout the house } plus the deco lights all on, sometimes even the chandelier in the dining room is on, and during the day the lights on the pillars coming down my driveway are all on, it gets sickening, when the bill comes but kids just don't think about stuff like shutting lights... I swear they come home and run through the entire house flipping switches...

You can fix that quick by telling them they have to pay part of the bill every time you come home and unnecessary lights are on!

My grandparents bought a small 1 person sauna probably 10 years ago and it stayed outside on their side porch this whole time. It's electric and they've since turned it into a spare freezer since they don't use it any more.

Have you considered an infrared sauna? I've got a cousin with one, and it isn't too shabby. I'd assume it'd allay your fears of being trapped inside as well since the wood wouldn't be absorbing significant amounts of moisture.

I thought they didn't do the same thing.... Something about dry heat vs moist heat? are they happy with it?

It's certainly fair to say they're different experiences, but depending on what you're looking for, you might find it a worthwhile alternative. Of course, I don't claim to know all about saunas, just tossing it out as an idea.

are they happy with it?
She's had it for years, so I'd assume so.

I rented a movie with this exact plot. Pretty stupid. People had given it good reviews though. I hate being suckered by lame reviewers.
