Anyone ever taken apart a URC MX-900?

My MX-900 is a few years old now and the select button is not working well. I have to push it very hard, usually multiple times, to get it to work. I thought I would just take it apart and clean the contacts inside but there are now screws! I simply don't see how this thing comes apart! It appears to be one solid piece of plastic, though I know it is not. Has anyone done this? Any tips? I don't want to break anything and if I can't get it apart I'll just bring it to work and let the tech do it.

Most remotes like that have clips along the side, Generally you use a very small flathead screwdriver and go along undoing each latch while leaving something stuffed in the crack to keep it from latching again. Although most of the time it leaves little nicks along the side if you dont know exactly where the latches are.

or you could email URC

Any screws behind the battery door?
None; there are none behind the stickers on the back either. It must be a clip design but I can't even find the seam. One thing is for sure. It's well built and it's not going to fall apart. ;)

I remember reading about opening an MX-500 many years ago because some of the early ones had the same issue with some buttons sticking. If I recall correctly, you do have to slightly open it at the seam and then twist it very hard. I'd be afraid of destroying it if I tried that procedure.

My MX-350 has a teeny tiny seam at the top by the emitter but it looks like it would be practically impossible to open it. I'd call URC and ask for their recommendation. They might even do the work for a small fee if it is out of warranty.

I took the remote to work and the tech helped me get it open. It is held together by clips and it prys apart along the bottom of the silver ring. The problem with the button was that the conductive material on the silicon that completes the circuit when pressed was wearing off. The tech punched out a very small circle of foil and glued it onto the button where it was worn. It works perfectly now.

Sorry I didnt see this earlier HiHo or I would have responded . The points do wear over time, and the tech gave you the right tip:) There are still a few of the older mx series remotes that are avialable new or just re-branded if other issues come up :)

The MX-900 is by far the most popular remote we sell and there are plenty lying around at work. Maybe i just use mine a hell of a lot more than normal but I've only had mine for about 2.5 years and i have never seen a customers URc remote suffer from this problem.
