I sure hope they lose those speaker ears. Don't like em at all. I'd be real happy if they become removable.

Well, I just bought the 50" model at Circuit City on sale for $3150 and your question prompted me to look just now at the manufacture date and it says, "February 2006". So, I guess the answer is, "no, I'm not waiting any longer." I assume it's the same TV they have been making for several months now.....or has it been out longer than that? Anyway, I would have preferred they made the speakers removable, if they had I would have gotten the bigger 60" model and it would have fit in my entertainment center....bummer, eh? I don't mind their appearance whatsoever...I just mind the space robbing nature of the speakers......they, by the way, sound incredibly good when set to the "Dolby Surround Sound" but usually I'll have the sound going through my new Yamaha 2600. Picture on the SXRD is fantastic when viewing HD channels, best I've ever seen, by far......but something better will hit the shelves sooner or later....probably sooner.

I got mine this past Sunday

I just got the 50" version yesterday. All I can say is wow. They are hooking my HD service today. I was watching Shark Tale and the colors were just amazing. I have been reading about calibration DVDs and professional calibration of DLP, Plasma and LCD tvs. Do you think it is needed?

Thanks,

One of the local dealers told me the Sony dealer show is going on this week...maybe some info on the new models will be out later on. I was told a 50" flat panel LCD will be out this fall.

I have looked at the SXRD models a lot since they came out. Great display, but I just can't get past the speaker ring. Yuk!

Hello guys. Newbie here. I am close to purchasing the current 50" SXRD, possibly even this weekend because of a great deal I found. I'm starting to have second thoughts, reading that a 2nd gen model may be approaching. I'm really interested in the 1080 inputs via HDMI, and possibly the side speakers being redesigned. Has anyone got more info on a possibile availability date? Thanks.

My SXRD has a January '06 manufactured date.

I couldn't be happier with the picture quality. Since I run all of the audio through my Yamaha receiver, I have no need for the speakers. Although I wish they were removable, I have plenty of room for them and I really don't mind the way they look.

I guess a 1080p input would be nice to have eventually, but I'm not sure it justified waiting for a new SXRD model along with the higher pricing that is sure to go along with it in the near term. At least for me, moving from SD to HDTV proved to be such a significant upgrade that it made sense to do it now.

By the way, I love the Sony matching stand for the SXRD. The combination looks awesome.

Again, I couldn't be more pleased with my selection.

I think what he means by "2006 model" is the next generation model that would include 1080p inputs over HDMI as well as removable dumbo ears.

I'm waiting too. :)

New SXRDs coming out

I called one of my favorite Sony dealers today and here is the scoop from the Sony dealer show...New SXRD rp units are scheduled to come out in September. The new units will have three HDMI inputs, two in rear and one in front, that are supposed to accept and display 1080p. Sizes will go up to 70 inches with the MAP on that unit supposedly at $7k for now. Now the best part (to me, anyway). They are redisigned with the speakers also being detachable on the 70 for sure and I beleive the 60 incher. That big silver frame, ears speakers or whatever you want to call them/it was just a plain deal killer for me. I could not take my eyes off of them, even with the killer picture.

The dealer told me they had sold some of the Qualias and that the new SXRDs blew them away. Of course they (Sony) showed them with the new Blue Rays, so I'm not so sure how fair a comparison that would be. He claimed it was the best display he had ever seen...of course that's coming from a pretty die hard Sony guy, also. I can't wait to see one for myself.

Thanks for the input Dukester.... September, huh? Ahh, the suspense. There is a huge like 12 pg thread on the avsforum.com They have some rumored info, model #s, pricing, and a few concept photos. - Even something about staggered release dates based on size. Here is the brief release Sony has on their site.

Rock On! That is fantastic news and you know that around the same time all the other manufacturers will be debuting their 1080p sets that actually accept 1080p over HDMI.
