Anyone else noticed these new sneaks for kids with a wheel on the heel?

I've been seeing these for the past few weeks and, I gotta say, It's quite an innovation.

But, what are your feelings on kids using them anywhere they please?

I've seen kids zipping down the street and thru the malls, totally oblivious to anyone else in the path but here's what I saw today. I'm taking some classes in the local community college this summer. Concurrent with the adult classes they are running "college for kids" where young teens can sit in in some special classes and activities geared for their age group. Kinda like a day camp.

I was walking to my class and one of these young 'uns zips past me on her heels. She enters the intersection of another hallway and, doncha know, there was another kid doing the exact same thing at exactly the same time. Well, they crash into each other, fall down, start crying and before you know it the security guards are surrounding them until the ambulances get there. Now, I doubt either was seriously hurt but in today's litigious society they apparently chose to not take chances.

So. my take on these is that they are essentially the same as skateboards. If you can't use a skateboard, you can't use these either but who knows? You would think their parents would know better, right? What with rights and all, common sense is out the door.

I get the feeling that there are gonna be quite a few lawsuits thanks to by these.

You should really stop worrying about shoes, kids are doing far more dangerous things these days.

You should see what I do on my bike.

...and no, I don't wear a helmet.

I don't worry about the kids.

What you do to yourself on your bike is up to you. As long as you owe up to your own actions and don't try to sue somebody for the consequences of your own actions you'll have my respect.

I may scratch my head as I picture your last words being, in true redneck fashion, "Hey guys, watch this..." :D

It's just that I know my fellow Americans and I expect the school to be facing a bit of a problem here for their precious, precocious progeny taking a tumble.

Those things have been around for years... they are not "new".

So they ran into each other, both of their own faults...

I was a skater for most of my life (still have my last board :D ) and I never wore a helmet once. NOW, when I ride my mountain bike, I ALWAYS wear my helmet. Too many close calls and I know now that I am not invincible like I used to be :D

And, with five grandkids betqween 9 months and 11 years of age that's a miracle.

and, I've never seen 'em inside the school buildings before this year.

I hear ya. It's their own fault and it's unlikely that they got "really" hurt. But remember, this is New Jersey. We're crawlin' with lawyers and they all send their kiddies to these things.

BTW, Blair's daddy is a judge here in Jersey...

Which is all the more reason to wear a helmet.... Protect that melon! They can fix arms, legs, hips, etc..., but you only get one brain man.

there's lots of brains for sale in the local wet market. (they're of pigs ... but still)

during my time it was roller skates and skateboards. then decades later, roller blades. now, roller shoes. I can't wait for the 'back to the future' hoverboards.

The secret: Never fall. The worst injury I've had from biking is a sprained ankle. Oh no, call the morgue.

On an unrelated topic, work is doing more harm to be then biking. I wear steel toe boots, hair net, grovles, mask, earplugs, and just yesturday I threw out my back.

I think we all know who the real evil is here. :)

Me too. But, none of those things you mention were made to be used indoors (excluding roller rinks or other special venues) and amongst other people. Common sense prevailed and, if not, litigation prevails.

These things have their place, and used carelessly in public hallways is not one of them

there was a time our high school banned all that stuff in school grounds (maybe even now). its all about the laxity of the rules (and especially the punishment)

There should have been signals or an "All way Stop sign" :D .

I guess kids didn't do anything remotely dangerous back when you were a kid.

Geez.

Let them have some fun. Don't be that guy who sits on the porch and yells at "those damn kids" who aren't bothering you at all.

My son has a pair

He loves them, and if he enjoys them, as long as he pays attention, I have no problem with him on them. They aren't allowed in his school though, and a few stores won't let the kids wear them.

and for the mention of lawyers, being one myself, I have this to say

Lawyers don't sue people, people with lawyers sue people!

My brother and sister-in law are getting their son a pair, but they will have rules as to where he can wear them. He's 5.
