Anyone else found this out?

Hi guys just a bit of an observation by me.

Has anyone else realised that using mains power conditioners strangles the full sound coming out through the speakers if connected to an amp?

I had a wire world mains cord connected to my marantz receiver then this connected to a mains conditioner and this was a horrible combination also.

I now use a marantz stock main cable and connect it straight to the wall, 100 percent better as clear as night and day.

Don't realise how people think it make it sound any better in my opinion only.

Greetings to all

The answer is, power cords don't make a difference. I found that my power conditioners helped with video very slightly and had ZERO influence on audio.

What is the make and model of the mains conditioner? Perhaps a faulty unit, or a poorly designed unit?

If the conditioner has a transformer, it has been known for a very long time that transformers that are under-sized limit current and current is what's doing the work. If you went from the conditioner to the Marantz power cord, you should hear a difference. If you hear a difference between the Marantz cord and the one that came with the amp, any difference you hear is due to you wanting it to sound better. The wiring from that outlet to the grid can handle a lot more current without voltage drop than any power cord could possibly improve on. If the line voltage has noise, and it always does, the noise is filtered out by the amp's AC power supply and rectifier, followed by the filter caps and any choke(s) that may be in it. Further, the DC current is for supply and bias voltages only and it never enters the signal path.

Power amps should not be connected to power conditioners.

Actually power conditioning is nonsense. The quality if the mains signal is regulated by law and must remain in tight parameters.

Only once did I have trouble with the mains. I was alerted to it by my APC UPS, as it did not like the AC mains. I scoped it and measured this distortion, it was about 8% THD. I notified the power company who took action pronto for fear of a heavy fine.

It was a failing line transformer near by and a new transformer solved it and there has been no trouble since.

Conditioning the AC mains is unnecessary, and totally bogus. High end dealers make a dishonest income from this. What is really required is protection, and most of those high priced units either do not do that, or provide lousy protection

There are few units that can handle beefy power amps.

I had a friend that was sold one of these high priced conditioners and the wave coming out was worse than what was coming in from the wall. In fact so bad it caused his MAC DVD player to not function properly until I got ride of it. I had strong words with his dealer and installed APC protection for him

Bottom line: - Power conditioning is BOGUS and is for audiophools. What is required is protection and the best you can afford.
