AnyNet System Control Solution?

So I'm researching big screen TV's and I find this wonderful place. Keep up the good work everyone!

My question pertains to Samsung's AnyNet System. What the heck is it? I can't find good information from their website. It seems to be some sort of universal remote feature. I figure that enough people on this site have bought Sammy's with this feature that someone could tell me.

The reason I ask is that I'm torn between 2 sets: the HL-R5067W and the Mits WD-52528. Now the Mits has NetCommand which is an online remote programming feature which sounds good. I really like the Mits, but for where I live there is no way to even look at one. I hesitate to spend that much money sight unseen. So I'm thinking to go the Circuit City route and buy one that I can look at and touch. But I've seen several reviews at cc.com about the terrible remote system that comes with the Samsung that I thought I'd ask the people who have used it!

Thanks in advance for your input!

Anynet is a proprietary control system that allows one Samsung product to control another one. It really is worthless and you would be better off with a Harmony remote and a IR repeater system. The Samsung does have discrete IR codes for power on/off and remote input selection... or at least, that was in an email I received from them.

We have a dozen of their LCD displays going into a job and we are forced to go IR for control since Anynet is completely worthless and they do NOT give out the control codes. But, if the IR does work correctly, then you have full control over the plasma via IR which is good enough for most.

Heck - Philips who came out with the Pronto which really asks for discrete IR codes isn't even smart enough to put them into their own products! Crazy how worthless engineers are within most companies when developing control protocols for their products.
