Anybody try these before?

I came across a used pair of Pioneer SP-FS52-LR. Has any one used these? Are these any good for the $180-$200 range?

If so, point me in the direction of a correct 2 channel receiver to power these.

Thanks!

The Pioneer SP speakers are very well regarded budget speakers. Certainly a solid choice. That used price seems a bit high considering they can be had for new for only a but more than that, and I have even seen them on sale from Fry's for less than that.

Whats the deal with these philharmonic speakers?? You are the 4th person to recommend them.

They're based on the Dayton BR-1 kit with Dennis modding the xover and cabinet some. I built a pair of Dayton BR-1 from a kit and just bought a set of Dennis' xovers and will be beefing up the cab a bit, too....but the Daytons are nice speakers even before that. Never heard the Pioneers myself, tho.

I own the FS52s and that's at or above their price new. I paid $100 new for my pair at BB on sale, price matched to Amazon. I would not pay over $100 for them used. They aren't pretty, but they are actually a very good speaker for the money; designed by Andrew Jones. They don't require a ton of power and have enough bass to use without a sub for music IMO. Any stereo receiver should be fine. I am driving them with my Marantz PM7200 that is 95x2.
