Or any product from "Quiet Solution". it's like a gypsum wall panel with a layer of metal in the center. they claim it provides STC values from 49 to 80 depending on the board thickness and number of layers used. What is your experience?

I looked at QuiteRock for my HT. It's very expensive and the higher STC rated THX material is difficult to install (each partial piece will need to be cut with a saw). I opted to go this double 5/8' rock and green glue on the walls. Cheaper, easier to install and about the same perfromance. Check out thier site. http://www.greengluecompany.com/ Moreover, they will talk with you on the phone and are very helpful. I spent a lot of time trying t communicate with the QuiteRock folks via email. I could never get anyone on the phone.

Agreed 100%. 2 layers of drywall with GG between them is an excellent solution for the same or less money and a lot less hassle cutting.

John Dahl from THX swears theit testing shows it does almost as good as an offset single layer drywall. That's darn impressive. Because of the layered metal in between it's a bit more difficult to install (as mentioned - no cut/snap here), but I'd certainly consider putting it up in a room to save the wall space and construction hassle of a double wall.
