Hey is there anyone that owns the 1700 that can help me?

I just got my receiver in and i have no clue how to set it up. I was playing a DVD from my DVD player via HDMI to the receiver. But it doesn't seem to be playing into the surrounds that loudly. When i hit the surround decode button the rears sound alot better. But i thought that was for two channel audio.

While playing it was on Pro-Logic on the Movie DSP setting. Is that right.

Bottomline is i'm just trying to figure out the standard setting to get Dolby Digital working correctly on all 5 speakers. Still awaiting my Sub in the Mail.

Either help here or by PM will be appreciated.

Receiver setup

Plug in the included mic.
Run the autosetup. This should get you started.
Re-run the auto setup when you hook up the sub.

Auto set up does not take long. About 2-3 minutes is about right. Make sure room is absolutely silent (no moving around, no dishwashers, etc.). It's very sensitive.

put the 1700 in the movie mode of your choice (my personal favorite is "Adventure" or Sci-Fi"). You can then save your auto-set up results and your sound processing mode into one of the memories on the remote. Then, when you're ready to watch a movie, just hit that memory button and it will recall all your settings for movie watching.

You can set the other memory button for music listening.

Read the manual. It's a little tough to decipher, but if you read it carefully it will eventually make sense.

Yeah i ran the setup. My problem is getting my receiver to play the movies from my DVD player in Dolby Digital. When i put it in straight mode it comes across as PCM and can tell its not in Dolby Digital 5.1

I looked on my DVD player but no where to switch from PCM or Dolby. This is all hooked via HDMI. Not sure what the problem may be
