Any way to copy from DVR?

Ya'll might see the terrible storm we just had in the southeast on the news. Here around Raleigh, NC, it was horrible. This morning I could barely see any grass in the yard. And when I stepped out in the driveway, I almost got some snow in my slippers. Unspeakable!!! Must have nearly 3" of snow!!!!

The local news is aghast. Continuous coverage yesterday about the forecast and road preparations w/ salt brine. This morning the reporters are actually standing outside in the snow, and decrying the horrendous conditions. Gonna be tough to hang on until the mid-50s return this weekend. One reporter just said, "I almost slipped walking down this hill. Thank goodness I didn't fall."

That brings me to my question. I would LOVE to copy some snippets from the local news and send to my yankee friends. We use DISH and have their DVR. We record stuff all the time, and I'd like to find out if there is a pedestrian way to copy a few seconds from the DVR to a .mov or some computer file/format I could send to my friends. Anybody done something like that?

The answer just came to me. Simply sit in front of the TV and film it w/ my phone while I replay the particular segment. Then can attach & send it via email from my phone. Bingo! (Told you I was looking for "pedestrian" method.)

If you pay dish a one time fee you can use the USB connection on the DVR to copy to an external drive. However, it is encrypted, so you can't easily access the files on that disc. Your phone method is simpler :)

Yes, use your phone. Nothing else is 'pedestrian'.
