i just purchased a panasonic plasma TC-P58S1 and the sales man offered me this http://www.abt.com/product/39806/Panasonic-DMPBD60.html blue-ray for $100. i wanted the 80 but he said the offer was thru a rebate with panasonic and it only applied to this model. that being said how does this blu ray rate? should i go with the optical or coax cable to my receiver? i am guessing the optical is better, correct? my receiver is nothing to write home about, a sony STR-DB940 which i bought about 9-10 years ago when i moved into my new house. this is my first blu ray, i know i will be using the hdmi from the tv to the blu-ray. do you guys have any other wiring tips that i should know about? since i started having kids i haven't paid any attention to new technology but now that they are starting school and hopefully old enough not to mess with daddy's tv & music stuff, i have some free time to get caught up. thanks

I have the DMP-BD60. I think that it's a good unit. For $100, I think that it's a good deal. You might be able to talk the saleman down, because the rebate is $200 off, and that player sells for under $200 on Amazon and other places before rebate.

Before I upgraded my receiver, I used the optical audio connection (there is no digital coax connection on the BD60). It worked great.

it should have been free with the tv i bought but i got them to match a price of an online shop of 1789 for the plasma so that is how they are getting some money back in this case. i asked about the 80 but he said it would cost 240 so i stuck with the 60. thanks for the reply

I wouldn't be caught dead with one of those.:D

(I don't want to be caught dead lol)

Panny makes good blu-rays.

It's probably time to upgrade your receiver. Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha, HK, Denon are all much better than sony these days. I'd be willing to bet your receiver is on it's final leg.

Now they have auto setup systems and much better remotes. Plus you can run everything through the receiver. Kinda like the Cowboys offense last year(oh sorry bad joke)

yeah i didnt know any better when i bought it, thankfully the salesman made me get the mirage avs 200s and avs 100b when i bought the speakers...i got a good deal too with them while i was working part time at abt. i plan on upgrading the receiver in a few years when i do my addition, i will probably go with built in speakers as well and hopefully the whole wireless receiver thing will have had time for prices to drop down as well.
