Any sources for history of sound reinforcement?

Last semester of college and I'm taking some oddball classes. One of them is the history of 19 & 20th Century Technology. There is a term paper for it that is pretty open ended, I want to write it on the history of sound reinforcement. The professor said I should start with the pre-19th century things and then keep the focus on 19-20 after that.

Anyone read any good books, seen any good articles or have any references for me? Some interesting tidbits or stories?

My paper won't be anything amazing, doesn't need to be. I just want to learn about sound history along the way.

The focus is on sound reinforcement systems. I have the recent history (like Valve Soundsystem), Phazon and some of that stuff pretty much down since I'm in that "scene" ... but pre that I've got some work to do. I know the idea of a bassbin came from reggae sound systems, so that is one route I want to go.

Anyone got anything bookmarked or something? I figured I'd ask?

Cheers!
