I was just wondering if there are any Grateful Dead fans on the forum. My 1st show was Hartford 82.

Hey jamie 2112,

Yeah, I got into the Dead later, very near the end, while I was in college. I only ended up at a handful of shows, my first in Eugene 1994. There was something really special about that day...

I don't listen nearly as much as I used to (used to listen almost exclusively), but maybe I'll break some out...

I am a huge fan of Mickey Hart's solo stuff. Some of their albums are pretty good, but I never them live (which I have been told was much better.)

love phil and friends, especially with chris robinson on vocals. When it was the dead with warren haynes and later jimmy (and both) on guitar, a awesome follow up to gerry. Caught and taped several gd shows in the mid-late 80s.

I guess we are few and far between anymore. I saw 417 dead shows before Jerry died and a few Bobby shows since then but music will never be the same. For a live show they were the best......

Yeah, I saw a couple Bobby shows, and hit Further Fest a few different times. Lots of fun "back then."

After that, I used to be way into Widespread Panic after the Dead were gone. I've seen them in a variety of places. That reminds me, I need to get back to Red Rocks this summer...

I understand that it was usual for there to be special substances that commonly made their concerts "special". "Breaking some out" would be a way to relive the magic.

I am surprised no moderator has moved this thread to the "Musical Goodness" forum, where discussions of this type usually take place. Perhaps, though, they mean it as a slight, and do not think the Grateful Dead has anything to do with musical goodness.

I've only been to one show, Soldier Field 1995 with The Band as the opening act. It was a good time but we couldn't find any sid. :(

I still listen to American Beauty plus a few others once in a while and have a DVD of a concert recorded at Alpine Valley.

Still a fan just wish they would release more vids of their shows. Used to trade tapes a lot. Started just before they lost Keith and during college used to hits several shows coast to coast. Saw some VERY SPECIAL shows. Mind expansion w/ & w/o added substances. ;) GREAT Special Times:D

They were a big part of my life in the 80's and early 90's

My first show was in Worcester, MA, October '84. I didn't count my shows, not that many, maybe 15 or 20.

I would catch them now-and-then until I gave up my job and apartment and did the 91 summer tour in my 71 VW pop top which broke down at Pine Knob. I ended up in Ann Arbor putting new heads on the motor and left with a group of 12 going to the national Rainbow gathering in VT.

I still love the music. I have about 250 discs worth of bootlegs, mostly SBs-all lossless. I keep copies of their albums around too on CD and vinyl.

--never did get into the jam band scene that followed. Phish was a fun bar band, but I couldn't go with them when they hit the big time (I just didn't think they were that special) Most other jam bands just sound like tedious noodling to me. The Greateful Dead transcends the "jam band" genre in my experience.

Any of you that don't already have The Grateful Dead Movie should pick it up. There's also a 5 CD box set.

I went to several of their shows in the 70s, but most of their music just wasn't my cup of tea. The DeadHead shows in front of the band were more entertaining.
Q: What's the first thing a Deadhead says when he sobers up?
A: "Man, this music really sucks!"

Of course that's just my opinion...I probably wasn't stoned enough;)
