Arcam are a British manufacturer of audio gear (http://www.arcam.co.uk/).

Some of their CD players seem to be very well regarded, as do their top end DVD players.

I have one of their receivers (AVR300) which has gained some pretty positive reviews. I've certainly been impressed with its handling of both movies and music (which I understand is unusual for a home cinema receiver).

I had a chance to hear several speakers through an AVR300 over the weekend (Paradigm 60, Linn Ninka, Rega R5). All sounded great.

If you are planning to run a 5.1 system, the AVR300 can be set for bi-amping the mains with the two otherwise unused output amps. Very cool!

I listened to the Arcam AVR300 a couple of times last year in a high end store. It sounded so sweet that after the second time I bought the speakers. Having said that, without doing an AB, I really can't say if it sounds better than my 3805. Had I not just bought the 3805 at the time, I would certainly have considered the AVR300.
