Hi all

I am in the process of buying an Anthem MRX 1140. I am selling my Anthem AVR10. I want more power to drive the speakers

I am looking for a good power amp that will go well with what I have. Ideally a power amp with seven or five channels.

1)Is it safe to buy second hand?
2) How much for a really decent one. I don't have a special cinema room. I just love brilliant sound. It would be more for TV then music

3) I have a B&W P1VD but don't find it has enough refined bass. Will the power amp sort this?
4) Have you guys used HIFI SHARK? Is it safe?

I really appreciate any help you can throw my way. I am not looking for a massive bulky machine.

OR OR should I stay with Arcam AVR10 and buy a ARCAM PA 720? Guys I am confused. Please please help

More info, such as what speakers you have, room size and distance from speakers. Listening habits, do you like it loud? Music, HT- both?

I'll tell you right now more power is rarely the solution for better sound. Especially when you talk about bass. Sounds to me like you need a better sub, or preferably a pair of them.

Is this your "sub"??

That's your problem right there! FR is 64 hz! That's not a subwoofer my friend. If you want better, tighter bass you are going to need to completely switch gears.

Power amps would do nothing for a powered sub like yours, the problem is how to integrate them. Even most integrated amps will do nothing for a sub in terms of bass management. You already have an avr with bass management, good room correction (Dirac) and you can add power amps to it as needed for various channels as it has a full set of pre-outs. Why get the 1140 instead of adding power amps? The 1140's amp section isn't all that interesting.

That sub you have, as was pointed out is rather weak, but really you can only do so much with a pair of 8" drivers, and while I like dual opposed drivers, not crazy about the "box". Better subs are better subs....and B&W isn't someone I'd look to for subs at all.

What are the rest of your speakers and why do you think you need more power for them?

As to used gear, depends. Are you in the UK?
