Hello all
Well if any of you have already looked at my home theater pics than you already know what I have, but my question is that I am thinking of upgrading my receiver for two reasons.
1. I don't have the remote (rav2000z1) and I need it to program the system setup.
2. I don't know if I really need all the features of this receiver.
I currently have the Yamaha RX-Z1 and I am thinking of upgrading to the Denon AVR-3806. I was also thinking of getting new speakers, but everybody always says good things about the athena's so I decided to keep them. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Where's your pics? You only have 1 post. Did I miss something?

At first I wanted to slap you. Then I did a search for that remote, and see other (Harmony) remote won't do what you need. Then... I saw what they are charging for a replacement remote. Are they freakin' nuts? Your RX-Z1 is a killer unit (it weighs 61 lbs.!), and IMO blows away the 3806 in everything except technology. You'd need to step up to the Denon 4806 to approach the Z1's power (I think it weighs around 46lbs compared to the 37lb. 3806). I use weight since the best units have the largest power supplies and heat sinks.

Anyhow, here's a few links for that insanely priced remote.

Are you sure you can't program the system setup from the front panel? I can do everything on my Denon from the front of the unit. Have you tried Yamaha's tech department yet? I bet they can help. Assuming they can help set up your system, would a Harmony remote control all the other basic functions? BTW, where's your remote?

I checked with the yamaha tech team and all they said was, we recommend buying the replacement remote. Of course their going to say that. I mean for what I spent on the receiver you'd think I could get some better service. I also tried from the front panel and no luck what so ever. I even tried the newer Harmony 880 remote $250. One thing on harmoney real quick some of the best tech support ever. I called them up explained my problem and they manually created a file for my remote, now everything works with my z1 except I can't access the menu for setup, go figure. I did contact yamaha agian to see if my friend rav2000 remote which is different than the rav2000z1 would work ok.

Oh yeah, I was having trouble with the file size of my pictures but they are up now

This guy is selling his RX-Z1 on ebay, and apparently has a new Yamaha RAV 354 remote. He says here:

"This unit originally was supplied with a touch screen remote that was very complicated to use (and no longer have) so I am including a brand new HARD Button Yamaha RAV 354 remote that I programmed for use with this RX Z1. It is very versitile and can be operate all of you components. The keypad and LED source windows alighted. The source window component names can be renamed. It also has Macro capability. A complete set of instructions will be included. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A PRONTO REMOTE I WILL PROVIDE THE COMPLETE .CCF FILE FOR THIS Z1. IN ADDITION, I WILL DEDUCT $40 FROM THE FINAL SALES PRICE IF YOU DO NOT WANT / NEED THE RAV 354 REMOTE CONTROL."

Tell me it isn't true that one of Yamaha's 'flagship' receivers can only be set up using the remote control. That's almost as dumb as some so-called high end brands (that shall remain nameless) that don't include a power button on the unit and can only be turned on and off via the remote.
