Another surround placement question

I've looked through all the articles and hundreds of posts, but I still can't figure out what to do. . .

Here is what I've got so far. . .
Reciever: Pioneer VSX-D607S
Mains: BIC DV62si
Center: BIC DV62CLR-S
Sub: ADVENT ASW1200
Rears: ???

I've attached a drawing of the interesting room layout. The TV location cannot change at all. It is also nearly impossible to run wires down the back or side wall since they are exterior. The furniture layout could possibly change (if I could convince the boss if you know what I mean.) My camera is missing so I can't take a picture of the actual room. I will try to find and post later. I was thinking of putting BIC M-SR6 in-ceilings approximately where shown, but I'm not sure. Would dipoles help me at all? Anyway, I'm kinda stuck. Any help? Thanks.

We could help but I don't think anyone knows exactly what your question is.

Question

I guess my question is what are my best options in surround placement and what type of speaker would compliment my room architecture. One option I came up with is putting direct radiating in-ceilings where I've shown. Would that be a bad idea or something I can work with?

the in ceilings might work, but I would'nt think anything but direct radiating speakers would work in your situaion. Because if you use bipole/dipoles they would need a wall to reflect off of, and it would result in an unballanced sound. I don't have much experience with in ceiling speakers but there are plenty of people on this site that do, I'm sure someone will chip in, they always do.

Do you have a basement? If so you could drill holes in the floor behind where the receiver sits, and run the speaker cable along floor joists to positions to each side of the couch, drill holes to come back up. it looks like you have enough room to have the surround speakers to each side of the couch.

I have no experience with the BIC speakers, but they do get good press on this site, and it would not be a bad idea to match your mains

Yes you could have them on each side of the couch but I WOULD NOT recommend this, from my own personal experience. In the last house that I rented the living room was open on the entire right hand wall (pretty much the same as yours but flip flopped). I could never get the surrounds to sound quite right. I had one on the back wall as far out as it could go, and the other one on the side wall about 1-2 feet from the back wall. I tried everything to adjust the position but finally I just built a speaker stand (5 1/2 feet tall) and placed it opposite the speaker on the side wall was. This worked pretty well. You may find it hard to fill your room with sound as well because you are having to fill your whole house.

The timbre matching of mains and surrounds should'nt matter because the distance is so far between speakers. The only reason for really matching would be cosmetic and not performance.

If timbre matching is not a concern at that distance, I'll just buy cheap surrounds and test different setups. Unfortunately, I dont' have a basement, so wiring has to go thru ceiling. Any other ideas to keep from testing tons of different setups?

Not really man a lot of home theatre is trial and error. I would pick up some klh or some HTIB speakers if you have them laying around to test what position you like best.

Ceilling actually works pretty well. My speaker wire is all through my attic, but you can pull up the carpet on the edges and pack the wires under the sheetrock behind your tackboard. Just a thought.
