hello people, i have choosen the sony vpl-HS51A(purchase soon). its for my old man. he is retired and can barely see and hear. he enjoys watching educational programs, nascar, nhra, old war movies(not on DVD stuff on turner classic), CSI, law and order. he has digital cable. (i will force him to get HD, just like the DVR) is this a good projector for him?

i few other questions?

is the 51A worth 18% more than the sanyo Z4?(it was between the Z4 and the 51A)

how hard is it to calibrate a sony vpl-HS51A(methinks i will need a priest)

after setting a budget of 1000grrr, then breaking it over and over and over. i need to cut concers on buying a screen.
the projector will sit on a self. the image will be off to the right.(around 30inches)
max size can be 112in by 63in in a 16:9 ratio. (total wall size is 117in by 98in)

video specfra, cinema vision, retro-reflective, or does the local fabric shop have something that will work well.

thanks for ANY help/feedback.

2shy if your father really has bad eyesight Im not sure Id go the projector route.....I think a nice LCD would be better for him...nice and bright and not hard on the eyes....projectors give you that great cinima feel but where's it going to be located? Living room? does he have a seperate theatre room? If so, then sure...but if not, Id be more inclined to go the LCD route...IMO:)

your confused???

I don't even know how to post a question on here or even how to ask but hopefully someone with one or two more active brain cells than myself will see this posting, understand my question and somehow answer me in kindergarten terms. so... I heard that it is possible to hook up a projector to the sattelite receiver, put it on a shelf across the room and project a tv viewing on the wall or screen or whatever........Is this real and how can we do it if in fact it is real???
I am techno retarded so use slow and easy words please! my email add is terrihoward@hotmail.com. I am including it incase I can never find your reply.
Thanks for taking time for the special ed,
Terri
ps.......... Dear spammers and sales people...Please don't send me emails on how to enlarge my body parts. I don't want to do surveys nor so I want any other of whatever you are selling. Thanks.

Search button is your buddy

That's an easy one.

Simplest terms you say....I'll try. You say you want to see the picture from a satellite with a projector on a wall or screen. Is this correct?

Simplest terms:

Step 1) Select and purchase a projector, a satellite STB and a wall.

Step 2) Look at the back of the projector and sat box, look for "holes" that look the same. (same shape and number of "prongs")

Step 3) Go to the local big box find the "Monster Cable" section and get the most expensive wire that has the correct "prongs".

Step 4) Point at wall plug in/turn everything on and enjoy! Another snafu is the power wires (pay attention to the prongs/holes and you should be fine)

Good Luck

Terri,
Your perception is correct in simple terms, though getting it all configured properly is a little more complicated. The projector is just a display device just like the video component of your TV. But with the projector you have no audio component so you have to also run a connection from your satellite receiver to an audio device to hear the sound.

Most often, the audio and video is routed through an audio/video receiver (AVR) to help limit some of the connections. For example, you could connect your satellite and DVD player's audio and video connections to the AVR and only have one connection to the projector.

I hate to say, but you are way over what your dad needs. It is not simple to set up front projection and perhaps to look after it. Front projection needs almost total darkness or at best minimal light in room. What if he wants to get up and go someplace during?

I think as was suggested, the best would be a large screen TV.

Thanks.

I think you may want to visit a local audio/video store and start asking questions and perhaps suggestions and costs for a turn key operation?
