Another DIY RCA Thread

I'm curious - why is it one ever suggests using RCA crimp connectors manufactured by Holland, Bomar, etc. in lieu of Canare? Granted, Canare's are nice, but they're not the only broadcast quality crimp connectors out there that work with Belden cable. That, and the recommended tooling for most the of the alternatives is readily available and less expensive.

For example, Holland makes an RCA crimp connector for Belden 1855 cable that you crimp with an IDEAL 30-582 die set and you prep with a simple cable stripper such as the RS 278-248.

The quality seems on par; am I missing something?

Personally I think is someone has the time and skills, solder connection plugs are superior simply because they are more reliable. I am a theater installer and we make all of our own cables using compression type ends, Even when you know what your doing and put the ends on correctly they still do fail from time to time. Even though they are alot eaiser to put on than solder type for personal use I still stick to solder connection rca's
