Another bi-amp question

Would it be beneficial if I "bi-amp" my RBH 1266 se with amp from my Denon 4308 ci and from pre-out going to my sunfire 2400 amp? Thanks.

Short answer: no. It will most likely not make any audible difference.....

I doubt it, even with that receiver. More likely with the 5308, but even then I'd still say you'd be better off with an external amp if you are looking for more power.

What is the power spec of the Sunfire? I would think that those 4 ohm RBH towers could benefit from high power external amps (biamp or not) especially at reasonable loud volume.

Thanks for all your response. My sunfire is 200 into 8 ohms. However it feels lacking in volume around -10db. When cranked up to near 0db it starts to sound rough.

In that case may be the Sunfire is not in top shape. My 140W 4308 does not sound rough even at "0" though I rarely listen at anywhere higher than -10. I suggest you bite the bullet and buy a decent 200 to 400 WPC amp for the L/R towers and be done with it.

I can tell you what the problem likely is. Your Sunfire needs service. They have a switching power supply. This is to conserve energy and increase efficiency.

The amp switches power rails, low voltage for lower powers and high voltage for higher powers. These amps and others, with this configuration ( class H), are notorious for failure of the switching circuit, and the amp does not switch to the high voltage rail and clips out well below its full power rating.

I would bet good money that's your problem.

How can you even listen to things at -10? That would be mindblowingly loud.

Not necessarily. The size of the room and the efficiency of the speakers can have a huge effect on the overall volume. -10 db on a volume dial is just a reference, not an actual indicator of sound level. Beyond that, the listeners perspective of loud also plays a part in this. What you or I think is loud may not be to someone else.

Sure. At -10 db generating the test tone, I'm getting around 80db on spl meter.
