Another Atmos Ceiling speaker question

So some have you have read my garage setup thread but I wanted to ask if you think upgrading to 4 Atmos ceiling speakers from 2 and a 7.2 receiver to 9.2 would be worth the cost? I would just sell the 7.2.

the receiver and speakers would cost around 1k out the door as I’ve found speakers on sale and can get the receiver open box.

Here’s a pic if you haven’t seen my “ceiling” speakers. I would just do the same thing to the other 2 new speakers but move the location almost on top of chair.

If you can place speakers accordingly, go for it.

IMO.4 will always be better than .2. In fact, I would advise you to go 5.x.4 and not buy a new AVR. But I f a thousand bucks isn’t a big deal then go for 7.x.4.
FWIW I would advise against the rear tops going almost above the couch. All tops should be 45° fore and aft of the MLP. That means if it’s four feet from your ears (seated) to the ceiling, then your top speakers should be 4’ in front of, and behind your head when seated.

Can’t. I don’t think he realized you are using a 7 channel receiver that can’t process and expand to 9.

Wait..There is an area in the back that says surround back and it’s not currently used. I always wondered what that was. Here’s a pic:

YeH. You guys can dumm Fukk me now or later I guess. I looked at the pic and for some reason translated the words into my brain as thinking the current setup was 7.x.2.
I breezed through the garage setup thread but didn’t deep dive. It looks pretty cool though.
So. What is the actual current speaker layout?

You could likely reassign that to be front height/top. But I still think it’s worth doing .4 if the cost isn’t prohibitive.

Surround back for 7.1, but you are currently doing 5.1.2. So, 7 any way you want ‘em, but just 7.

I thought those might be able to be used as “rear heights “.
Well if you’re only going to have one pair of tops/heights they will be in front.

This is a stock kind of image with little reference to the angles and distances, and very generic. IMO top fronts would go above your feet if you sat down and stuck them out.
Front heights would go on the front wall where the wall and ceiling meet usually.

I moved my recliner up at bit and repositioned the rear surrounds and now my feet are right under the ceiling speakers. Wow what a difference in overhead experience. Good thing I opted for the big 8” Sonance ceiling speakers.
