Analog outputs on BD players?

Sorry folks but can someone explain why analog outputs on BD players are important? I was reading some reviews on the Panasonic BD35 and BD55 for instance...the latter has the 7.1 analog outputs (if I'm not mistaken) while the BD35 does not. Am I missing something here? As long as both have the the HDMI output and I couple one of the units with my receiver (Yamaha v661) I should be able to enjoy the wickedness of 7.1? No? Just trying to piece together some info for my initial BD player purchase. Gracias.

you are correct. The primary difference between the two is with analog outs the BD55 will suppport receivers without HDMI and the BD35 can't. In your situation get the BD35.

You have a relatively modern receiver (similar to my HK AVR-247). You would be surprised how many people have *VERY* expensive processors and receivers without HDMI audio. Classe and Krell finally got into the act. However, Cambridge Audio still does not offer a receiver that accepts PCM (same as your Yammy 661) over HDMI much less decodes the new high res codecs.

One can understand people not wanting to replace a $7-30k processor just because it lacks HDMI.
