an off the wall question on video and cd

I am a fan of krell. but can't afford the new stuff and they haven't gotten into blu ray yet.

I'm looking at a DVD standard, primarily for the audio side (cd's), but would like to use it for my video source.

has anyone compared it to a blu ray player like the Marantz 7007?

both on the video and audio side?
