An interesting subwoofer placement link:

I placed my subwoofer 53 cm from the corner like they stated in this article. I know the corner at first seems like the worst place possible. But I must say it actually is an improvement to my ears compared to my original free placement I did by ear.

I placed the sub right in the corner and adjusted the sub level until I got it as flat as I could in comparison to my mains midbass. I used low to high bass sweeps to do this.

The free placement sounded marginally little less lumpy in the frequency response compared to corner placement. But with the sub directly in the corner and exiting all the room resonances, Im able to turn the sub WAY down to a very natural level while still having a "rumble" effect from the sound waves bouncing off the walls. The sub also seems less "directional" and spreads bass better. The bass sounds more natrual now, in a sense that it actually sounds more like a real instrument and not a mechanical subwoofer. I think its because reflected sounds generally sound "richer" than direct sound. This is how Bose pulls off their "spacious, rich" sound, by reflecting it off the walls. It dosent work for mid to higher frequencies (obviously), but it sounds great with bass frequencies.

Any comments?

Actually this is how I have mine placed. I am still a novice and was going to try a few different placement options as well
