Amps for small av shelves

Long Story short. My wife purchased a huge NON friendly AV entertainment center. My ATI 2000 amp will not fit. And to be honest almost everything I see won't fit. The Outlaw Audio mono amps will fit and if I can't find anything else I will purchase these. Any suggestions for a small amp but big on power that will get me close to the ATI in regards to power and quality? I only have about a 5 in height opening. 17in deep but that would have to include interconnects. 17in wide. Will be using my Parasound P5 as the Pre amp. Thanks

Only 5" in height? Unless you can go Class D you should limit yourself to no more than 3-1/2" or 4" so you have at least a wee bit of airspace around it. Or add a fan. Or add one regardless if it's a Class A-B.

The only one I can think of is the AVA Synergy 240 Amp. It's 120 wpc and should easily drive your Sierra Towers. Class A-A/B type amp, stable at 4 ohms.

http://www.avahifi.com/products/power-amplifiers/synergy-amplifiers/synergy-240-solid-state-amplifier

It comes in a small chassis (17" W ×12" D × 3.5" H) or large chassis (17" W × 13" D × 7" H) at the same price.

All the AVA amps I've seen were very powerful, low noise, and had a high quality build.

I think you need to control your wife!

Seriously, do you have pictures of the monstrosity?

May be you can modify it?

Your other option is to move your gear to a different room. You can then put a TV with the worst sounding speakers you can find, push it far back in the cabinet with the nasty rear facing speakers as close to the back of the cabinet as possible.

When you wife complains she can't hear it, just say "I told you this was a lousy idea and a complete waste of money!"

Lol. I have already told her...
Anyways I had thought the same thing when I went home at lunch. I can run the equipment from the room behind the entertainment center. This way all I have to do is create a pathway through the wall for the cables.

A significant problem with today's media entertainment furniture units is that they are designed by staff that don't have a clue about adequate free-air clearance for the components and cable routing...

Just my $0.02... ;)

Yes, if you must have one it must either be DIY or custom built to your specs. Even then they are a lousy idea.

Part of the problem is manufacturers. We need to move to separates for lots of reasons now.

Receivers are too big and ugly.

Chip designs and circuits are getting smaller and using far less energy. However they need to run cool, very cool.

This means it is now totally unacceptable to place circuits with microprocessors, HDMI boards in with power amps. This already is leading to, and will increase the rate of failure of receivers.

We need small profile pre/pros. Then we can have power amps that have more choices form two channel all the way to 11 or so. These can be tucked away out of sight.

This will also allow the wider use of active speakers.

Receivers always have been an abomination basically and are now going to become even more major sources of failure and trouble.

That's a great option! The new ATI class d units are just a hair over 5". But the niles is a solid unit and has a proven reliability record.
Yeah, at 2.25" tall, I think it is a pretty good fit.

Unfortunately, Niles has made their name on the professional installation side and is mostly unknown on the consumer side.
