I just go an open box yamaha a-s700 and a cd-s700 at a really good price.
the cd player is missing the plug cable which looks like a computer cable but without the ground. The guy at the store claims that if I use a three prong (ground) computer cable on a yamaha two prong cable it would "blow up the amp.
As far as I understand is just a ground right? nothing would happen right?
what he said doesnt make sense to me. but before I ruin the unit I want to check with you guys.
Thanks for your help.

The guy is yanking his own chain, and in public no less.

If it fits, you should be fine.

I've used a 3-prong cord on a 2-prong component before without any kind of issues.

That makes no sense to me.

We need to ask Rickster71 the electrician.:D

Yeah I've done that numerous times, especially with as many components as I have over the years with all the gear changes and PC builds.

I've never even thought twice about it.:D

That guy is an idiot and totally devoid of a logical thought.

+1....

Obviously its missing the ground on the chassis of the unit so the ground coming off the outlet goes to ahhhh ---- nothing.... Duh...

I actually prefer the ground plugs over the originals as they seem to stay put better with the extra ground albeit a ghost ground to nothing it keeps things tight.
