Amplifier help please!

I just picked up an AMC 3050a, it was used but it seemed in perfect condition. When i plugged in my speakers (which i had already tested with a different amp and sounded good) the right side sounded louder than the left. when i crank the volume then the left side gets louder and the right stays the same so they seem to even out; however volume overall stays the same (maybe a tiny bit louder) the only effect i get is that the speaker volumes even out which i think its so strange (its almost acts like a balance knob). And now after like a minute of so of the amp being on a slight hum comes on and doesn't go away, its not so bad but still (actually i'm not sure if this is normal but i don't remember it being there yesterday. I am a new to this hobby any help is appreciated.

Were you using test tones when you say one side was louder than the other? Have the speakers been level matched?

sorry i don't know what those things are; however like i said i tried the speakers on my friends amplifier and they sounded perfect. on this amp when i turn the volume knob anything before 12, lets say 9 o'clock the right speaker sounds a lot louder, i'm not talking little subtle differences here but really clear obvious ones; but when i turn the knob lets say at 3 o'clock then they seem to even out; however the overall volume is not louder, its the same at 12 as it is at 3 the only difference being that the speakers sound evenly loud.

Could be numerous things. Since your new to this, I would rcommend returning the recevier and starting over with something that is known to work and the start learning all about what calibration and setup will do for your systems. I wouldnt tackle your problem, Id just eliminate it;) Hopefully there isnt an issue with the return as it is defective in some manor more than likely. How much did you pay for it?

Yep, the old spray bottle of "Tuner Control Cleaner & Lubricant" from our handy Radio Shack store. Works it's magic in the most unusual long times. :)

For people like us, that likes to play with electronics, it is a must ingredient to have in our homes.

Thanks for sharing this with us, it will help to remind us, what a simple solution can do to help ourselves and others. :)

* By the way, Welcome to Audioholics. :)

Cheers,
Bob
