i am in the process of building home audio set up .... 70 music/30 movies i am just an educator right now so i am on a budget i will be using my old school onkyo as the receiver for now.

any other thoughts on a 2 channel amplifier 150w per channel @ 8 ohm for under 1000?

Amp options

There are plenty of amplifier options in your budget. Check out audiogon for deals on a used Rotel, Adcom, or parasound amp.
Also, the Behringer A500 should be more than adequate for your Polks and is only $180 new.

NAD C272 - 2X150W, 8 ohm, exactly what you're asking.
But look at the headroom:

IHF dynamic headroom at 8ohms 2.3 dB
IHF dynamic power 8 ohms 230W (23.42dBW)
4 ohms 410W (25.31dBW)
2 ohms 520W (26.62dBW)
