Amp Shuts Down - Chk Spkr Wires?????

<font color='#000000'>I've setup my home theater which includes a Yamaha 5440 receiver and B&amp;W speakers which are all 8 ohm impedence - not that I know what that really means.

Whenever I turn up the volume beyond a certain point...Amp shuts down...and when I turn it back on...it gives me the error message &quot; Check Spkr Wires&quot; in the display.

Any ideas? &nbsp;Thoughts? &nbsp;

I put in the best in-wall Monster cable for all the speakers and don't see any obvious issues. &nbsp;

Any advice would be most appreciated.

<font color='#000000'>I have a different set up, but had the same situation. &nbsp;there are a couple of things to check.

they may be overly obvious, or they may not...hope they help

1~ &nbsp;Be sure you have proper ventilation for your receiver..nothing should be sitting on top of it. &nbsp;and if it's in an entertainment center behind a door, try leaving the door open

2~ &nbsp;Doulbe check that you have the positive and negative wires matching up in the terminals. &nbsp;I've never had this shut off my amp, but it's somehting to double check.</font>

<font color='#0000FF'>If you have checked out your speaker wires then my suspicon would be the speakers, probably a bad tweeter in one of them, check your center first.

Happened to me and it was a burnt tweeter in the center.</font>

my 5440 amp shut down only once in 4yrs and that was when I had both my A&B running at the same time during a hard-hitting scene in a movie.

You are pushing the unit too hard. That is a common error. You can try to ues a fan to help cool the unit down, but I suspect it won't help much. If you are listening at loud levels, you might want to upgrade to something with an external amp.
