Hey can someone help me figure out how to connect a Behringer EP4000 Europower Power Amp 2 x 1400W filtered using a Reckhorn bass managment system. The sub amp will be powering 2 individual 4 ohm drivers in 2 different enclosures. I have a vintage Yamaha RC700 as my reciever powering 2 Bose 301 series III and two new bose 201s speakers. The RC700 does not have a subwoofer outline. I do not know what to do in this case. Thanks for any feedback.

If I understand thid properly.....
Rc700>L/R speaker wire>ep4000>subwoofer low level>reckhorn>speakers

I think that sounds right but I'm on my phone so hopefully someone can verify this. :)

Are you sure about that?

I googled the RC700, but couldn't find any info on it. Anyway, this is how I would envisage the connections, assuming the RC700 has tape deck connections.

RC700 L/R Tape out > Reckhorn Inputs. Recckhorn Outputs > EP4000 Inputs.
EP4000 Speaker Outputs > Subwoofers.

Anybody disagree?

Yes, the tape outs are fixed volume.

Does that unit have preouts, or external jumpers between the preamp and amp sections.

If not he needs to ditch that unit. I brought up the specs on that unit and I see it is designed for receivers that have preouts. If he has no preouts he will have to change receivers, or internally modify the one he has.

Let this be a lesson to me....don't post on my phone when I am bored and trying to fall asleep. :)

Ahhh, right - forgot that. I had suggested the tape outs, because I was thinking of my own amplifier, which has two sets of pre-outs - one of which is jumpered to the main ins. And, that was what I was picturing, i.e. having to remove the jumpers, which would've interrupted the signal to the amp section.

Brain lock on my part...

I just though of something else. If there is just one set of pre-outs, and it is jumpered to the main ins, how about a splitter cable? A signal will then go to both the amp section and the Reckhorn.

Make sense?

By the way Coloradoxc, don't forget that you will need to adapt from RCA on the Reckhorn to TRS on the EP4000.

Happens to the best of us.:) It happens to me while I'm wide awake, if you read my initial response and the Doc's response to that....

I think he meant to post up Yamaha CR-700, vintage

That certainly looks like it will be difficult to get going...

Headphone Jack out to the Reckhorn....? then out to the EP4000

I downloaded the manual and that device is not compatible with your application. Sorry.

OK. So say I was using an ipod or computer as the inputs. Could I just split the input cable so that the pre-amplified signal goes to both the rekhorn and the R 700 reciever? Is that a possibility?

It would be unhandy as you would have to re balance everything every time you altered the volume.

Your only solution I can think of is to buy a four channel stereo mixer at least. You will need four channels for every device. It would be unhandy and costly.

Why are you so attached to that old low end receiver anyway?

It seems your easiest and cheapest solution is to get rid of it. There are plenty of vintage two channel receivers that have pre outs, that are a lot better than your unit, that can be had for very little.

Its time to wrap this thread up. You need a sensible hardware change, or internal modification of the hardware you have, and that is is top and bottom of it.

I'm not fixed on the old stuff, lol. Just fixated on saving money. Since you seem to be very knowledgeable with the audio world, can you suggest a reasonably priced receiver that would work for my project. I really cannot afford more than $250-$300.

This receiver has pre outs.

There are always a huge number of receivers for sale on eBay. I can't possibly know which models have and have not. I can tell this one does from the rear picture. I'm sure there are lots of others that do as well.

It's your project and its up to you do do the leg work really. We can advise like we have.
