I'm a newby to this site, so apologies if a similar question like this has been posted. Moderators feel free to redirect it to another thread.
I have a Rega Osiris integrated amp, which drives my two main 2-channel speakers. When I run it with my CD player, the Osiris runs fairly cool. Last night, I was running the Osiris through my home theater system. The Osiris has an input called "Direct Line" for home theater to allow my home theater preamp to send a signal to the two main front speakers. I have a Sony 9000ES preamp that handles the home theater processing, including the volume.
When I went to shut off my Osiris, it was running extremely hot. Almost too hot to touch. I'd never experienced that before with an amp or preamp. This is my first integrated amp.
Does this sound like a defect with the product or maybe some kind of electrical issue with my apartment? I'm living in a rental apartment and don't know much about its electrical capabilities (number of amps service, wiring, etc.) I obviously don't want to damage an expensive integrated amp like this.
If an amp runs hot like this is it that a sign of it not getting sufficient voltage? I'm no electrical expert, so I'd appreciate any insights our more technical readers have.
