Emotiva is a good choice. The Behringer EP2500 is also a great amp and can be had for around $275

This ATI AT1805 amp from Classic Audio Parts (authorized dealer) is essentially brand new and comes with a 7 yr warranty. The asking price is around $1,200, but just make an offer (M-F) for $1,000 + shipping.

ATI makes amps for Lexicon, JBL, Earthquake, & Outlaw.

This AT1806 is almost brand new (also 7 yrs warranty) and the asking price is $1045, but I would make an offer for $845 (retail on brand new is $2,495):

Recently I bought the Emotiva XPA-5. I've owned Yamaha's for 25 years. Emotiva has GREAT customer service also. They're right there to answer any question you may have. It seems you become adopted to the Emotiva family. That's a great feeling. It took a lot to get me to change over. So, for the price and power, and customer service, it was so easy.:D

I've had Magnepans for many years..and currently own a pair of 1.6's and 1.7's. As far as bang for your buck in a quality power amp for them, I find it hard to beat what Emotiva is offering.

I use an XPA-2 with my 1.6's with excellent results...that amp is considerably less than a grand and puts out as much power as your maggies will ever need.

What type of surround/center channel speakers are you intending to use with the 1.7's?

I would probably first try the 1.7's with that Pioneer Elite receiver you already have. I read a couple reviews on it and the power amp section seems to be pretty highly thought of. It may just be all you need..depending on room, surround and center speakers, volume preferences, etc.
